The Schizoid Nightmares Wiki (SNW) is a non-commercial wiki documenting the creative works of Schizoid Nightmares. It is currently available only in English. Since he founded the wiki on October 30, 2020, Schizoid Nightmares has remained the sole contributor.

Schizoid Nightmares states that he first founded a wiki on Fandom but left due to its advertising and licensing model. He later founded the SNW on October 30, 2020, hosted by Miraheze.[1] Eventually, he became frustrated with the MediaWiki software. He abandoned MediaWiki and Miraheze for alternatives that he hoped would "centralize information in a simpler format." Following "exhaustive experimentation" for a few months, he returned to using MediaWiki and Miraheze on May 14, 2021, concluding that both are the best options available.[2][3]

2022[edit]

The wiki was seemingly reset on February 4, 2022, giving it a fresh start from past iterations.[4] Schizoid Nightmares privately registered the domain schizoidnightmares.wiki on October 1. Two days later, on October 3, the custom domain replaced the old subdomain schizoidnightmares.miraheze.org.[5][6][7]

Management[edit]

Since its founding, the wiki has been, in practice, under the autocratic management of Schizoid Nightmares—him being the sole editor. Officially, a user group-based hierarchy governs the wiki, with Miraheze stewards, global sysops, and local bureaucrats at the top in descending order.[8]

On September 27, 2022, Schizoid Nightmares introduced the editorial assembly, a means for active users to propose and vote on changes to the wiki. However, this mechanism remains unused, and its passed proposals would only be non-binding unless stipulated otherwise by the bureaucracy or Miraheze.[9][10]

Editorial guidelines[edit]

The wiki uses Canadian English for content and any mutually intelligible variety of English for administrative and social purposes. The wiki also uses the Oxford comma and American style quotations, with exceptions recommended to avoid ambiguity.[8]

Anti-vandalism measures[edit]

Users must sign in to their account and have a verified email address to edit pages on the wiki. Every contribution to the wiki gets prescreened (moderated in advance). Only users with enough trust and merit may receive an exemption from prescreening.[11]

Technical and legal operations[edit]

Miraheze (legally registered as Miraheze Limited), a British not-for-profit, hosts the SNW on its crowdfunded wiki farm.[11][12][13] The wiki runs on MediaWiki, a free and open-source wiki software developed by the Wikimedia Foundation.[14] Due to the host's jurisdiction, the wiki must abide by English law.[15]

Licensing[edit]

The wiki has been available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) since its founding in 2020.[1][16]
